NETFLIX & TELEVISION

The invention of television has changed the way society interacts and gets information. Because of television, information was visually able to be spread around the world. Television is a means for us to watch our news, movies, television series, and documentaries on a bigger screen. Families are able to bond around television sets and television makes it easy for us to have sports game gatherings and family movie nights. Television was the first means by which we were able to see worldwide news live and in real time. The influence of television has impacted how we think and what we believe by educating us in different trends in society.

Although the development of television happened over many years and was a collective effort of many inventors, Philo Taylor Farnsworth is credited with inventing the first all-electric vision image at only twenty-one years old. He developed a way of transmitting images clearly by using horizontal lines and a cathode tube was used. Early television went from being a device that scanned images through a spinning disc with holes and being mostly in research labs to showing up in almost every American household. Television started in black and white and by the 1950’s most households had tv sets, especially after the introduction of color. Today, we have televisions that have digital formats and even have 3D television.

It is difficult to imagine what life was like before television, however my grandparents knew what life was like without it and that goes to show how recent the invention was actually. I love movies. The modernization of television can really be credited to with the inventions of the VCR and DVD player and companies like Netflix, helped bring movies into everyone’s home. From great programs like The Crown to reality series like The Bachlorette to ESPN sports to the nightly news, there is something for everyone on television. Television continues to bring information into households in the forms of news, series and movies and continues to influence our thinking in American culture today even with the development of the internet.
